Huey Remixed 1969: Algiers

On July 22, 1969 in Algiers, Algeria, a poster of Huey P. Newton in a rattan chair, was displayed on the windows of the Black Panther headquarters at the Pan-African Cultural Festival in Algiers.

“From the moment Emory taped the first poster in the empty window —the one of Huey Newton sitting on the wicker chair that fans behind him like a throne, wearing his beret at an angle, and holding a rifle in one hand and an African spear in the other— crowds of young Algerians flocked outside and stared.” (Kathleen Cleaver in Douglas 2007, p62)
